A small sign reading Cundell Stables hangs over a narrow laneway on York Street, tucked between a tea shop and a row of brick houses. Behind this unassuming entrance sits a six-stall stable, the last of its kind in downtown Ottawa. Inside are Belgian draft horses and miniature ponies, maintained by John Cundell, a third-generation horseman who has lived in the house at one hundred and thirteen York Street his entire life.
