The Senate of Canada Building is recognizable by its monumental Beaux-Arts limestone exterior, which features a prominent colonnade of pillars and a grand, classical design modeled after Roman baths. Completed in nineteen twelve, the structure was originally built as Ottawa’s Union Station to serve the Grand Trunk Railway. It functioned as the city’s primary rail terminal for over fifty years before passenger service ended in nineteen sixty-six.
