The Canadian Museum of Nature is housed in the Victoria Memorial Museum Building, a sandstone structure that rises like a medieval castle at the end of Metcalfe Street. Its facade is dense with carved animals and plants native to Canada, including two large moose heads guarding the main entrance. This was the first building in the country purpose-built to serve as a national museum, with construction completed in nineteen eleven.
