The National Arts Centre is defined by a bold, angular exterior of brown, pebbled concrete. Designed in the Brutalist style by architect Fred Lebensold, the complex is built around a series of triangles and hexagons, a geometry that repeats throughout its interior stairwells, ceilings, and light fixtures. Its walls are composed of thousands of small, hand-placed pebbles, giving the massive structure a textured, earthen appearance that stands out along the Rideau Canal.
