Office of the Prime Minister and Privy Council

The Office of the Prime Minister and Privy Council is a four-story sandstone building on Wellington Street, identifiable by its Second Empire style, copper mansard roof, and prominent location directly across from Parliament Hill. Completed in eighteen eighty-nine, it was the first federal government office building constructed outside the parliament grounds. Thomas Fuller, the chief architect responsible for the original parliament buildings, designed this structure to house an expanding civil service.
