Saintlo Ottawa Jail Hostel

The Saintlo Ottawa Jail Hostel is defined by its exterior of grey stone and barred windows, a visual legacy of its original life as the Carleton County Gaol. Designed by architect Henry Horsey and completed in eighteen sixty-two, the building held prisoners for over a century until its closure in nineteen seventy-two. It was repurposed as a youth hostel the following year, preserving original features like the heavy metal doors, window bars, and guard towers.
