The Royal Canadian Mint on Sussex Drive is an imposing stone building in the Tudor Gothic style, defined by its rough-hewn walls, heavy detailing, and a central entrance bay flanked by octagonal turrets. Opened on January second, nineteen oh eight, it was originally established as a branch of Britain’s Royal Mint. For its first twenty-three years, it operated under British control before the Canadian government assumed ownership in nineteen thirty-one.
