The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts spans five distinct pavilions along Sherbrooke Street West, recognizable by the mix of its original nineteen-twelve neoclassical stone facade and the modern, glass-fronted structures added over the following century. Established in eighteen-sixty as the Art Association of Montreal, it is the oldest art museum in Canada. It houses a vast collection of nearly forty-seven thousand objects, ranging from ancient artifacts to contemporary multimedia installations.
