Phillips Square

Phillips Square is a historic public park defined by a central bronze monument of King Edward the Seventh, surrounded by the granite paving and greenery of a modern urban garden. The square was established in eighteen forty-two on land donated by the widow of Thomas Phillips, a city councillor and contractor. At the time, the site was a cow pasture on the edge of the city, but it soon attracted wealthy residents and, eventually, the city’s premier retail establishments.
