The Château Ramezay is a stone residence distinguished by its thick, fieldstone walls and steep roof, built on a slope overlooking the city. Completed in seventeen oh six for the governor of Montreal, Claude de Ramezay, the house was intended to reflect his status in the colony. Ramezay himself famously described his new residence as the most beautiful house in Canada.
