Montreal City Hall

Montreal City Hall is marked by a prominent central clock tower and a facade of grey limestone adorned with turrets and mansard roofs, all designed in the Second Empire style. Built between eighteen seventy-two and eighteen seventy-eight, it was the first building in Canada constructed specifically to serve as a municipal administrative center. The exterior projects a grand, symmetrical scale that reflects the city’s late nineteenth-century growth.
