La Foule illuminée stands on the esplanade of nineteen eighty-one McGill College Avenue as a sprawling, polychrome sculpture depicting sixty-five individual figures. Created by the Franco-British artist Raymond Mason and installed in nineteen eighty-six, the work stretches over eight meters in length and uses polyester resin to capture a dense gathering of people across four distinct levels. These figures, which range in age, race, and physical condition, are arranged to suggest they are facing a powerful, unseen light.
