Calle de Las Sombrillas

The Calle de las Sombrillas, or Umbrella Street, is defined by a dense canopy of colorful umbrellas suspended high above its narrow path in the Getsemani neighborhood. Formerly known as Callejón Angosto, or Narrow Alley, the street occupies a space between coral-stone walls that were once associated with local insecurity. In recent years, the community moved to change this character by installing the overhead display, which provides shade from the Caribbean sun and shelter during sudden downpours.
