Universidad de Cartagena Claustro de la Merced

The Claustro de la Merced is defined by its colonial courtyard, where an ancient brick-lined cistern remains visible in the center of the floor. Originally authorized in sixteen seventeen for the Mercedarian friars, the building stands as a testament to centuries of change in Cartagena. Construction began around sixteen nineteen, though it faced constant delays due to its proximity to the sea and the repeated battering of heavy coastal storms.
