Plaza de los Coches

Plaza de los Coches is defined by its series of colonial arches along one side, known as the Portal de los Dulces, where vendors sell traditional coconut confections from small stalls. Located just inside the city’s historic Clock Tower gate, this triangular square served as a market for enslaved people during the early centuries of the Spanish Empire. Over time, the space held various names reflecting its shifting roles, including a site for public punishments and a place to trade animal feed.
