The Baluarte San Francisco Javier is defined by its irregular stone footprint and a baroque sentry box that overlooks the Caribbean Sea. Built around sixteen thirty during the governorship of Francisco de Murga, this bastion was originally known as the Baluarte de los Cestones, a name derived from the large wicker baskets filled with earth that were used to create its initial foundation.
