Radisson Collection Royal Hotel, Copenhagen

The Radisson Collection Royal Hotel is defined by a slender, twenty-two-story tower clad in green-tinted glass and aluminum, a structure that broke the Copenhagen skyline when it opened in nineteen sixty as the city's first skyscraper. Commissioned by Scandinavian Airlines System, the building stands as the world's first design hotel, a title earned because architect Arne Jacobsen personally dictated every element of the property. From the exterior curtain wall to the door handles, cutlery, and the iconic Egg and Swan chairs in the lobby, the hotel was conceived as a total work of art.
