Dronning Louises Bro

Dronning Louises Bro is a granite arch bridge spanning the city lakes, defined by four tall flagpoles rising from stone foundations and iron railings decorated with the Danish royal coat of arms. Completed in eighteen eighty-seven, the bridge links the historic center of Copenhagen to the district of Nørrebro. Architect Vilhelm Dahlerup designed the structure to replace an older, smaller crossing that could no longer handle the city’s growth. It opened on the seventieth birthday of Queen Louise, wife of King Christian the Ninth, turning the inauguration into a personal celebration for the royal family.
