The fronton of the Charras barracks is a singular limestone fragment of an eighteenth-century facade, standing upright as a solitary relic in the greenery of the Parc de Bécon. Designed by the architect Charles-Axel Guillaumot and completed in seventeen fifty-six, the original building was one of three royal barracks constructed to house the Swiss Guards of Louis the Fifteenth.
