The Vélodrome Buffalo once occupied the space between the Porte Maillot and Porte de Villiers in Neuilly-sur-Seine. Inaugurated in eighteen ninety-three, the arena took its name from the Wild West Show of Buffalo Bill Cody, which had held its exhibition on the same grounds during the eighteen eighty-nine Exposition Universelle. Henri Desgrange, a prominent figure in French cycling, established the world record for the hour at this very track in eighteen ninety-three, covering over thirty-five kilometers.
