Véry bombing

On April twenty-fifth, eighteen ninety-two, the restaurant Le Véry became the site of a targeted anarchist bombing that shook the city. Earlier that year, the owner, Jean-Marie Véry, had identified a regular customer named Ravachol—a notorious anarchist militant—leading to his arrest. Anarchist factions viewed this cooperation with authorities as an act of betrayal, and militants sought violent retribution for the capture of their figurehead.
