The Théâtre Montparnasse is a three-story building at thirty-one rue de la Gaîté, recognizable by its facade featuring decorative caryatid herms and a tondo on the upper floor that displays a laurel-wreathed bust of the theater’s former director, Henri Larochelle. The current structure, which opened in eighteen eighty-six, was designed by architect Charles Peigniet, who is also known for creating the pedestal for the Statue of Liberty in New York.
