The Square Carpeaux occupies a patch of land that once belonged to the Montmartre Cemetery, also known as the Cimetière du Nord. This burial ground was closed in eighteen seventy-nine, and by nineteen oh seven, the space had been reclaimed as a public garden. It stretches across seven thousand two hundred square meters and features a central music kiosk that remains active for performances during warmer months.
