The Globe Céleste stood near the Champ de Mars as a blue and gold sphere, forty-five to fifty meters in diameter, marked by painted constellations and zodiac signs. It appeared during the nineteen hundred Exposition Universelle, resting atop four masonry pillars that held elevators, staircases, and a restaurant. Visitors traveled inside to view a mechanical recreation of the solar system, where a smaller interior sphere representing the Earth rotated once every three minutes.
