The Hôtel Thellusson once stood near the current intersection of Rue de Provence and Rue Laffitte. Designed by architect Claude-Nicolas Ledoux and completed in seventeen seventy-eight, it featured a grand entrance shaped like an antique triumphal arch. Visitors to this luxurious townhouse, built for Marie-Jeanne Girardot de Vermenoux, passed through a circular courtyard where a massive rock sat at the center, surrounded by a colonnade.
