Hôtel Beauharnais

The Hôtel Beauharnais is recognized by an Egyptian-style portico overlooking its courtyard, a visual marker of the fervor for ancient motifs that followed Napoleon’s Egyptian campaign. Originally built in seventeen thirteen by architect Germain Boffrand as a private townhouse, the structure gained its current interior character in eighteen oh three. That year, Empress Joséphine purchased the building for her son, Eugène de Beauharnais, and commissioned an extensive renovation in the Empire style.
