Musée de la Légion d'honneur

The Musée de la Légion d’honneur is housed within the Hôtel de Salm, a neoclassical palace recognizable by its elegant facade and its position facing the Seine, right next to the Musée d’Orsay. Built in seventeen eighty-two for a German prince, the building was nationalized during the French Revolution. In eighteen oh four, Napoleon Bonaparte designated it as the headquarters for the Legion of Honor, the order of merit he had established two years earlier to recognize significant civilian and military accomplishments.
