The district of Château Rouge takes its name from a manor house built between seventeen seventy-five and seventeen ninety-five, recognizable by its red brick facade. In eighteen fourteen, this private residence became a strategic command post for Joseph Bonaparte, the brother of Napoleon, during his attempt to defend Paris against the invading forces of the Sixth Coalition.
