Île aux Cygnes

The Île aux Cygnes is a long, narrow strip of land reaching eight hundred and fifty meters down the middle of the Seine. This artificial island began in eighteen twenty-seven as a stone breakwater, built to protect the structural foundations of the Pont de Grenelle bridge. It is only thirty-six feet wide at its broadest point, separating the waters between the fifteenth and sixteenth arrondissements.
