Café de la Rotonde

Café de la Rotonde is distinguished by its vibrant red awning and glowing red neon light that marks the corner of Boulevard du Montparnasse and Boulevard Raspail. Founded in nineteen eleven by Victor Libion, the establishment gained renown for its unusually generous policy toward the penniless artists and writers who gathered there. Libion permitted customers to sit for hours over a single drink and often accepted sketches or paintings in lieu of payment when tabs went unpaid.
