Dingo Bar

The Dingo American Bar and Restaurant opened at ten rue Delambre in nineteen twenty-three. It became one of the few establishments in Montparnasse that stayed open all night, drawing a loyal following of expatriate writers and artists who sought out its American-style bar and familiar atmosphere. The place gained a reputation for the hospitality of its barman, Jimmie Charters, a former British lightweight boxer from Liverpool. Charters managed the room through the nineteen twenties and thirties, often allowing patrons to run up significant tabs while serving them steaks, corned beef, and cocktails.
