Place Blanche

Place Blanche, or White Square, takes its name from the white dust of gypsum and flour that once coated the workers and carts arriving from the nearby quarries of Montmartre. This halfmoon-shaped plaza sits along the Boulevard de Clichy, where it once marked a tax gate in the wall built to collect tolls on goods entering Paris.
