The Capitole de Toulouse is defined by its long, neoclassical façade of pink brick and stone, stretching one hundred thirty-five meters across the vast public square. Eight pink marble columns stand across the front, representing the original eight capitouls, or governing magistrates, who first established a municipal base on this site in eleven ninety. This complex has served as the city hall for over eight centuries, functioning as the seat of local administration since the magistrates first acquired a collection of houses here to conduct their affairs.
