The Hôtel d'Assézat is distinguished by a twenty-six-meter-high corner tower, which remains the tallest private tower in Toulouse. Built between fifteen fifty-five and fifteen sixty-two, this Renaissance mansion was commissioned by Pierre d'Assézat, a merchant who generated his immense fortune from the trade of woad, a plant processed into a blue dye known as "blue gold." The architect Nicolas Bachelier designed the structure with a grand inner courtyard, featuring classical facades that display a rhythmic superimposition of Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian columns.
