Michaelskloster

other

The Michaelskloster is a collection of stone ruins perched at the summit of the Heiligenberg, marked by the surviving foundations of a three-aisled basilica and two distinct western towers. This site provided the mountain with its name, as it was consecrated to the Archangel Michael and all the saints. A church first stood here around the year eight hundred seventy, established by the Lorsch Abbey, though the structures visible today largely date from a reconstruction that began in ten twenty-three.
