The Heidenloch is a vertical shaft dropping fifty-five meters straight down into the red sandstone of the Heiligenberg. You can recognize it by the protective shelter built over the opening, which features a heavy iron grate that lets you peer into the darkness of the pit. Measuring roughly three to four meters in width, this deep, man-made cavity sits just a few steps west of the Heiligenberg observation tower.
