House for giant

The Haus zum Riesen, or House of the Giant, is a prominent Baroque palace located on the Hauptstraße in Heidelberg. You can identify the building by the massive statue of the Roman god Mars that stands on its facade, a figure that gives the structure its local name. Built in seventeen oh seven and seventeen oh eight, the palace was commissioned by Johann Philipp von Venningen, a high-ranking merchant and politician who intended the residence to display his family's significant wealth and influence.
