Schlossgarten Heidelberg

The Schlossgarten Heidelberg is defined by its series of unfinished stone terraces that cling to the steep northern slope of the Königstuhl hill. Known originally as the Hortus Palatinus, this garden was designed in the early seventeenth century for Prince-Elector Friedrich the Fifth and his wife, Elizabeth of England. At the time of its construction between sixteen sixteen and sixteen nineteen, contemporaries celebrated the project as the eighth wonder of the world.
