Marktplatz

The Marktplatz is distinguished by the Hercules Fountain standing at its center, a stone figure of the Greek hero carved in seventeen oh three. This square serves as the oldest in Heidelberg, dating back to the city's medieval founding. Throughout its long history, the space functioned as a marketplace for farmers and merchants, but it also held the weight of public justice, serving as a site for trials and executions.
