Karlstor

The Karlstor stands as a stone triumphal arch at the eastern end of the Hauptstraße, easily recognized by the four lion figures perched atop its structure. Built between seventeen seventy-five and seventeen eighty-one, this gate was designed by architect Nicolas de Pigage to honor Prince Elector Karl Theodor. The monument features detailed stone carvings by Peter Simon Lamine, including the coat of arms of the Palatinate on the east side and portraits of the Elector and his wife on the side facing the city.
