The Frauenkirche in Dresden is defined by its massive sandstone dome, a structure known locally as the Steinerne Glocke, or Stone Bell. Designed by city architect George Bähr and completed in seventeen forty-three, this Baroque masterpiece features an octagonal base and an unconventional, high-arching dome that weighs twelve thousand tons. Bähr created the interior to prioritize the Protestant liturgy, positioning the altar, pulpit, and baptismal font to be visible to the entire congregation from every gallery.
