Cathedral St. Trinitatis

The Kathedrale Sanctissimae Trinitatis is recognizable by the seventy-eight sandstone statues of saints and apostles that stand along the balustrades of its roof. Built between seventeen thirty-nine and seventeen fifty-five, this late Baroque church was commissioned by Augustus the Third, the Elector of Saxony and King of Poland. Because Dresden was a predominantly Protestant city, the Catholic monarch ordered the construction of this house of worship to serve the royal court, and he had it connected to the nearby Residenzschloss by an elevated walkway.
