Großer trauernder Mann

The Großer trauernder Mann, or Large Grieving Man, is a bronze sculpture of a seated figure perched on a stone block on Georg-Treu-Platz. The figure is captured in a state of extreme tension, with one hand pressed against his face and legs pulled tight to protect his torso and heart. Designed by the sculptor Wieland Förster and created between nineteen seventy-nine and nineteen eighty-three, this work is dedicated to the victims of the bombing of Dresden on February thirteenth, nineteen forty-five.
