Stjórnarráð Íslands

The Stjórnarráðshúsið, or Government House, is a sober, light-colored building located on Lækjargata in central Reykjavík. It is distinguished by its understated architecture, which contrasts with the grand state buildings found in many other national capitals. While it functions today as the office of the Prime Minister, the structure was originally completed between seventeen sixty-one and seventeen seventy-one to serve as Iceland’s first state penitentiary.
