Holy Shrine of Shahecheragh

The Holy Shrine of Shah Cheragh in Shiraz is identifiable by its brilliant, bulbous dome and the glittering interiors of its halls, which are covered in millions of tiny, light-reflecting mirror mosaics. This complex functions as a funerary monument and mosque housing the tombs of Ahmad and Muhammad, the sons of the seventh Shia Imam, Musa al-Kazim. These brothers sought refuge in the city during the ninth century to escape persecution by the Abbasids, and after their deaths, their burial site became a major center for pilgrimage.
