The Vakil Mosque is identifiable by its wide, dome-less prayer hall, which is instead supported by a forest of forty-eight monolithic stone columns carved into distinct spiral patterns. Built between seventeen fifty-one and seventeen seventy-three, this structure was commissioned by Karim Khan Zand, the founder of the Zand Dynasty who chose Shiraz as his capital.
