The Artxanda Funicular is a funicular railway recognizable by its two carriages that ascend a steep, seven-hundred-seventy-meter track to the summit of Mount Artxanda. Inaugurated on October seventh, nineteen fifteen, it was designed to connect the industrial valley floor of Bilbao with a recreational space above. Engineer Evaristo San Martín y Larraz originally proposed the project to provide city residents with a place for healthy expansion and leisure.
