Ibaigane Palace is a square-shaped stone mansion defined by its neo-Basque architecture, which draws inspiration from the design of traditional medieval tower-houses. Built between eighteen ninety-eight and nineteen hundred, the palace sits on a metallic internal skeleton—a modern engineering feat for its time—and features wide overhanging eaves, double cantilevers, and a grand stained-glass ceiling created by artist Anselmo de Guinea. It was originally commissioned as a private family residence for Ramón de la Sota, a prominent Basque shipping magnate.
