Dendarikale is one of the three original streets that formed the medieval foundation of Bilbao in the year thirteen hundred. Its name comes from the Basque word dendería, which refers to a place frequented by shops and traders, reflecting its centuries-old identity as a commercial hub. While the street is officially known in Spanish as Tendería, long-time residents have maintained the traditional Basque name, Dendarikale, for generations.
