The Teatro Campos Elíseos is defined by a dense, intricate Art Nouveau façade that earns it the local nickname La Bombonera, or the chocolate box. Built between nineteen oh one and nineteen oh two, the structure features a large horseshoe arch surrounded by sculpted fantastical animals and plant motifs. While local architect Alfredo Acebal designed the building, the French-Basque decorator Jean Baptiste Darroquy created this ornate exterior to serve as a festive visual draw for the theater.
